Ciclotel

A Bike Hotel

This hotel proposal is located in Houston’s iconic Third Ward, along the Columbia Tap Trail. With the neighborhood’s statistically low vehicular owner ship rates, a need arose for the hotel’s architecture to respond to the growing cycling community. The proposal is inspired by the historic typology of motor courts and motels. The ground floor is elevated to control the speed and route of the movement of bicylces around the site in order to increase safety and efficiency. The courtyard includes gardens and a playground to welcome passing cyclists and encourage them to rest and connect with guests. Each room has a bay window angled to introduce a view of the Downtown Houston skyline and bring the evening sun as guests come back from their day adventures.

The project started with a heavy process of a multitude of internegative sketches that then were explored through physical massing models. Spacial analysis was coordinated through AutoCAD with a BIM model to follow through Revit. Experiential and material studies were conducted through Lumion.
