National Juneteenth Museum
This proposal is located in Houston’s iconic third ward and is adjacent to Emancipation Park. The project is oriented to face the nearby Freedman’s Town and draw attention to the events that led to roots of emancipation in Texas. The observer experiences a tense and heavy environment on the ground level exhibit which focuses on the struggle of slavery and bondage. As the observer elevates to the above floor, the space opens up to a light filled atrium as they process towards the celebratory freedom exhibit.
The project started with a heavy process of a multitude of internegative sketches that then were explored through physical massing models. Spacial analysis was coordinated through AutoCAD with a BIM model to follow through Revit. Experiential and material studies were conducted through Lumion.
